'On The Buses' was a workplace sitcom first shown on ITV in 1969 and ran for four years producing seventy-six episodes. The series was written by Ronald Wolfe and Ronald Chesney, the same team behind 'The Rag Trade' and later 'Allo Allo.'
The show starred Stan (Reg Varney) who lived with his mum and his sister Olive (Anna Karen,) and their brother in law Arthur (Michael Robbins.)
The show centred around Stan Butler and his bus conductor Jack's (Bob Grant) ongoing battle with Inspector Blake, or Blakey (Stephen Lewis.) 'I 'ate you Butler!' Blakey took great pride and satisfaction in making Stan and Jack's lives as difficult as possible in the Luxton and District Traction Bus Company.
The show was so succesful that it had three movies produced by the British film company, Hammer; 'On The Buses,' 'Mutiny On The Buses,' and...
Rag Trade, The - Reg Varney in a different role.
Holding the Fort - Derrick Goodwin also produced this show.
